And a happy new year
January 19, 2025 | The new year is upon us. Not only am I still stumped by the process of trying to get published, I also have not had much time to look into it. Classes are in full swing. I barely have time to query agents or publishers much less promote myself online. I'm thinking of other ways of approaching this task. Sometimes, I just wish I could hire an agent. But that hardly feels like an honest solution. Getting the attention of an agent or a publisher seems so random and haphazard. I hear over and over about the deluge of query letters that these agencies have to go through. As a result, many of them have only a few seconds to look at a submission before deciding whether to keep it or toss it. I get it. I work in administration. A lot of people don't take the time to learn what the job is or what is required. These people are time-wasters, and they clutter up the inboxes of hiring managers and decision makers. This makes getting "discovered" a rather hopeless endeavor. I wish I had an "in" with one of those decision makers. Anyway. It's a new year and a good time to take a fresh stab at realizing my dreams.

Decking halls and whatnot
December 9, 2024 | Progress is being made, but not at a pace that feels very rewarding. Recruiting subscribers is difficult. I don't think I'm cut out for social media-----mostly because I don't care. I have a Facebook page, an Instagram page, and a website because that's apparently what you're supposed to have. But, when I look at what a lot of other people are calling content, I guess I just don't get it. And it definitely isn't where I want to focus my energy. I don't want followers. I want readers. To do that, I need to publish. And to publish, I need to generate interest. So, it seems like a vicious cycle. I really hope to capture the attention of a traditional publisher in 2025, but I still haven't ruled out hybrid. One way or another, the book is coming out next year.

Still alive
November 7, 2024 | So, time flies when your head is spinning. Where have I been for the past 2 months? In a word, teaching. I'm an art teacher. Not just at one school, but at two schools twice a week for a total of four days, plus after school at various locations around the Twin Cities. I don't just teach art, I train art teachers. Combine that with the fact that I have a kid of my own in Middle School, and three adults renting rooms in my house. I'm busy. I'd love to devote more time to the site, but I'm a
little swamped. Rest assured, I haven't forgotten about the book. I'm still pursuing publishing and hope to have a release in the first part of 2025. Stay tuned for further updates.

I'm exhausted
August 21, 2024 | This is WAY harder than it looks. I'm just a guy who wrote a book. I think it's a good book. There are other people who think it's a good book. But I have no idea what to do next. I've reached out to people I know. I've tried to encourage people to subscribe. I have 10 names. I've already spent more on this than I wanted to. Everywhere I look, the only advice I get on generating more interest appears to be spending more money I don't have. And this is just to get a publisher to look at my book.

Summer is busy
August 5, 2024 | I wish I was a full-time writer or, at the very least, worked a job that granted me more time to write. Alas, neither of those things is the case. So, I am revisiting my calendar to plan the next few months. My goal is to update this page every Friday with the latest info on my publishing progress. I also plan to regiment my time a little better so I can focus on adding more content to this site and reach out to more agents and publishers. I am still focused on adding subscriptions to this site, so if you kinow people who might be interested in my book, please send them the URL. Until Friday, peace out.

New Portfolio Items
July 16, 2024 | I have added some new photographs to my portfolio as well as some more graphite illustrations. We currently have 12 subscribers to the site. Obviously, I would like to see that number increase. I have launched an Instagram page and updated my Facebook page. I have contacted another publisher and a new literary agent. I plan to send out a lot more query letters next week.

Timelines for publishing
June 30, 2024 | One of my goals with this website is to be as transparent as I can on this journey. I am in the process of sending out query letters to agents and publishers. There are two kinds of publishers: "traditional" and "hybrid." Traditional publishers basically purchase an author's manuscript through a contractual agreement. This costs the author nothing.
"Hybrid" publishers charge authors a fee to print and promote their book. An author can make that money back if the book does well, and even turn a profit if the book does very well. However, it is a big investment for the author. One advantage of hybrid is that it takes less time. Some traditional publishing houses will take up to 12 months to even look at a submission. I don't plan to wait that long. If I don't have a good lead in 6 months, I will be researching my hybrid options.
Bottom line: I expect to have a release date by the spring of 2025. In the meantime, I want to enlist as many subscribers as I can. In the publishing world, quality is important, but profitability is king. An author who has a long list of eager readers is attractive to a publisher. So, keep spreading the word. Together, we can make this book a reality.

Welcome, new subscribers!
June 27, 2024 | Humility and gratitude are the seeds of greatness. We have 6 subscribers so far, and I am grateful for all of you. If you are revisiting my site as a subscriber, don't forget to spread the word. And come back often for more updates on my progress toward publication.

Announcing the official launch of the E. G. Price website
June 25,2024 | Here it is, at last: my author presence on the web. This is the bulletin page. I will do my best to keep it updated with things you might actually care about. Check back as often as you wish. I have no idea what my update schedule will look like yet.
